The Price of Love

Good morning and welcome to Journey Church! Happy Palm Sunday. This morning we’re going to hear from our Spiritual Father, Dale Yerton as he brings to us a message that I want to give you a command concerning….

Church, as your pastor I count it an incredible blessing and challenge to bring a word from God or allow other ministers to bring a word from God that equips, edifies and encourages you. But it must not stop there. It then becomes your responsibility to tell others around you. So, with that in mind let’s pray and ask God to speak to us today.

Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”And he said, “Here I am.” Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.

Genesis 22:1-2 NKJV

  • Abraham and God made a covenant. Genesis 15:18
  • Abraham became known as the friend of God. James 2:23
This begs the question, “What is the price for love?” What does it cost to enter into a covenant with God?

The price is revealed as we live out our relationship.

And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.” So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together.

Genesis 22:5-6 NKJV

For the first time, we find the words “love” and “worship” in the Bible. Worship is connected to offering something we love to God. There is no such thing as free love. Why? Because of its value. What is the value of love? It’s impossible to place value on love.

Many waters cannot quench love,Nor can the floods drown it.If a man would give for loveAll the wealth of his house,It would be utterly despised.

Song of Solomon 8:7 NKJV

There are some things too valuable to be bought with money. You can’t buy life. When we are in covenant with others they have a right to expect us to give anything they need. In a covenant, each party must be willing to do what the other was willing to do.

to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Romans 3:26 NKJV

And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”

Genesis 22:12 NKJV

The word God uses for “know” means an experimental knowledge. God is saying, “I’ve never experienced a faith like this.”
and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— 17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.
Genesis 22:16-17 NKJV

Every promise of God is conditional, but Abraham had met the conditions. God didn’t say, “If you will do this thing”, He said, “Because you have done this.” 2,000 years later the sword of God’s judgment would fall again.
God gave His one and only son to pay our debt. A debt that was paid in full by His love for you and I. Because Christ died for us, we can live. Now let’s go out this week and look for treasures in this community that need God’s love in their life.
